"There are two major reasons why we're in this situation. Accessibility of guns, it's very easy to get guns, and students not understanding conflict resolution. They feel like to resolve all of their issues is to pull out a gun. And that's a problem," said Threadgill. "If we get to the foundation of the issue, it begins at home. So, I really encourage every social organization, media organization to come to Mardi Gras and see how many unsupervised young people there are. And you'll begin to see part of what the problem is the supervision of children," said Mobile Police Sgt. John Young.
School Board member Dr. Reginald Crenshaw organized the meeting and says pamphlets with important messages to kids about the consequences of violence will be handed out. He, and others at the meeting, encourage more people get involved.
