The lecturer has been involved in a legal battle against the University of Uyo for the unlawful termination of his teaching appointment in 2002. The case has a protracted history, starting in 2002 at the Federal High Court, Calabar.

After several transfers and appeals, the case was registered as Suit No. NICN/UY/12/2015. On 26th September, 2017, the suit was withdrawn and refiled on 22nd November, 2017.
