A different admissions scandal.

Students arrive for the first day of school in September 2015 at Stuyvesant High School in New York.

How do students get into these elite schools? They have to do well on a single standardized test, called the Specialized High School Admissions Test, which any student in seventh or eighth grade is eligible to take. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has promised to diversify admissions to these schools, but his proposal to eliminate the test has met with severe backlash from alumni, Asian groups that fear the percentage of Asians would drop, and other groups. It is such a divisive issue, the New York Times reported, that even the Democratic governor, Andrew M. Cuomo, won’t take a stand.

Here are the percentages, by race or ethnicity, of the total number of offers to these eight schools: 51.1 percent were Asian, 28.5 percent were white, 7 percent were unknown, 6.6 percent were Latino, 4 percent were black, 2.3 percent were multiracial and 0.6 percent were Native American.

Numbers are consistently low for many other schools, is this a institutional discrimination or just the reflection of skills set present based on entrance exams are designed.

As a media, pls do some study first before you post out.

How many brown skins players in NBA? Does it also need to investigated?

WTF is the problem? The school has standards and only 7 black students met the critera. Lower the standards like they do for every thing else and you'll get a higher %. Race should not even be on the application. It should be by merit only.

Just shows how the school system is failing our students.

Why don’t we focus on why black students aren’t doing well on this test?

What about those 7 privileged kids who couldn’t get in? Can we crowdfund for them? I fear for their futures

But here you couldn't buy your way in. You got in by knowing the answers. That's done by work and study, not bribery.

Almost 30 years after it was published, Savage Inequalities still explains these disparities.

Wow, it's almost like there's a disparity in performance... or intelligence.

Totally wrong!!!!!

Why my daughter has no desire to go to one of those schools. She’s white. It’s not creative and is nothing but a grade mill. Btw she has a 95 average

Statistically that should be impossible. Obviously something is wrong with the sampling. It doesn’t represent the population.

This is a public school funded by tax-payer dollars. It should be educating all NY'ers, not just folks who can foot the bill for test prep.

'2019, Stuyvesant offered admissions to 587 Asian students, 194 white students, 45 of unknown race or ethnicity, 33 Latino students, 20 multiracial students' Get in through the standardized test. Took the test: 30.7% Asian, 19.9% black, 24.1% Latino, 18.2% white

If that is so without any other issues they should investigate, but how come in a local school 4th graders are to read 3 separate books on what minorities went through and their contributions yet not a mention let alone a book on any European immigrants that came here.

If women are oppressed Look to powerful females If blacks are still kept down Black leaders have failed Your champions are losers When it comes to you Take a look at them Their dreams are coming true

Max accepted r ASIAN students. So what is ur point ?! wapo TDS LiberalLogic

City: Continued low numbers for black and Latino students offered admission at elite high schoolsThe number of black and Latino students receiving admissions offers at the New York City’s specialized high schools remains low, according to offer letters sent out to students by the city’s Department of Education on Monday Maybe we should lower the bar so they can all get in. Only problem is then those schools would suck and we'd be back to SQ 1. Far left New York....hmmm, and Cuomo is 2.5 Billion short in taxes from 'Wealth Flight', hmmmm again, the wealthy left. They vote far left then leave. Fails to mention that for more Asian students are selected than white ones. Sounds like the smartest ones are being chosen and not an issue of “white privilege” as it seems to imply. Read the articles in full. Headers often mislead.
