Spark School in Soweto has outdone ten other schools to walk away with the World’s Best Title for Community Collaboration.‘ awards which were launched by T4 Education seeks to award schools that have collaborated and developed impacting partnerships with their wider community.The award ceremony took place virtually and despite it being a Saturday, learners from the school made it school over the weekend to watch the announcement live.
As an independent school in a disadvantaged community, Spark Soweto have ensured that at least 60% of its staff are from the local community. They have prioritised the hiring of unemployed youth who have just completed their degrees.From an initial ten schools which were shorlisted, which included two UK schools, the list was narrowed down to three finalist.Spark came out on top, beating, William Henry Burhart Elementary from the USA and Brazilian school, Escola Municipal Professor Edson Pisani.
