A Scots school playground has been flooded with 'sewage' from a recurring problem which was first reported in August and has reportedly seen staff and pupils "getting sick". Westerton Primary School in Bearsden has had issues with flooding before but in August the murky water began to flow into the playground where the children spend their breaks.
"This year it flooded and didn't stop. We've now realised that one of the drains has collapsed and the water doesn't flush away properly. The school now has sewage in the playground. Due to the infiltration of water from the drain, teachers are being asked to keep a close eye on kids in the playground to ensure they don't step foot into the 'sewage'.
"It's also a fire safety risk because some classes can only go in and out of the one exit. Staff were told they would just have to walk through the sewage water if there was a fire. I don't think parents are aware of how bad it is. It is not acceptable." East Dunbartonshire Council confirmed they are aware and talks are underway to conduct the work at the earliest opportunity.
