A group from Birmingham-Southern College came to the state Capitol to ask Alabama Treasurer Young Boozer to reconsider his decision to deny the college a loan.MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A college that young men and women attended for more than a century is at risk of closing but not without a fight from its students.
In the last legislative session, lawmakers approved a bill to allow colleges in financial trouble to take loans out with the state. It was in direct response to Birmingham-Southern College’s current situation.“I’m in a very bad spot for my future,” said Pyunn Ntwari, one of the many students at Birmingham-Southern College who are unsure about what’s ahead.
They intended to hand the letters to Boozer. The students were told they couldn’t see the treasurer without an appointment.
