The San Antonio Independent School District has been considering a proposal to close 19 of their schools due to a decline in enrollment over the course of many years. Closing some campuses would represent a rightsizing of the district and they've held several community meetings discussing this.
This week, Congressman Greg Casar of District 35 sent a letter to SAISD asking to consider reducing the number of schools they are closing and giving the community more time to come up with a plan to save the campuses. Casar released a statement that said, "As we work to bring adequate funds back to San Antonio for our schools, I hope that the school district will provide enough time for community solutions to come to fruition and reduce closures as much as possible."
