'Dangerous nonsense': The nutritionist who says a high-fat diet 'starves' cancer

Scientists and clinicians are calling on the University of Melbourne to cancel a seminar by a controversial nutritionist who has claimed a high-fat diet "starves" cancer.

"We are hoping that, in bringing this to your attention, you might use your influence and responsibilities for good clinical science at the university to have your university also withdraw permission for the on-campus seminar," Dr Harvey wrote in a letter to the university. In one post, she told a cancer patient that a ketogenic or very low-carb diet is "very helpful for cancer patients" because the disease feeds on sugar.

In July 2016, the Health Ombudsman dismissed a complaint related to Ms Cronau's Facebook page, finding that "although at times she provides general information about the benefits of the LCHF diet, I did not find any evidence that she promoted the diet as a 'cure' for specific illnesses/conditions or provided specific medical advice to individuals".
