Julia Johnson is a politics reporter at the Washington Examiner, where she also worked as a trending news editor. She was born and raised in New Jersey before earning her bachelor's in political science in 2021 from the University of South Carolina, with a minor in mass communications.

A Democratic PAC launched an ad campaign Thursday against Rep. Rashida Tlaib for her stance on Israel as it fights a war with terrorist group Hamas.

The ad, titled “History and Humanity," will run on broadcast and cable networks throughout Detroit, Michigan. Tlaib's district encompasses a portion of the city."It’s important to us for people who live in the Detroit area to understand what her positions have been and just how out of step and radical her positions have been,” Democratic Majority for Israel President Mark Mellman, who is also a Democratic pollster, told the New York Times.

Regarding the group's goal, he said the hope is that Tlaib might be forced to"moderate her positions." Otherwise, a"more moderate" candidate may be inspired to run against her.Democratic Majority for Israel purchased more than $100,000 in airtime across CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC stations around the Detroit market, according to the New York Times, citing data from advertising firm Medium Buying.

The Democratic congresswoman has faced renewed criticism for her anti-Israel positions as the country grapples with the terrorist attacks of Oct. 7 and the subsequent war with Iran-backed Hamas. In response to the events, Tlaib called for a ceasefire and referred to Israel as an"apartheid government."A resolution to censure Tlaib was quashed in the House on Wednesday night, with members voting 222-186 to table the motion.

The censure resolution was authored by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene , who called other Republicans"feckless" for not supporting it.
