Washington The Trump administration urged Congress Monday to put a cap on student loan borrowing, one of several proposals for updating the Higher Education Act.
"We want to encourage responsible borrowing," said a senior administration official on a call with reporters.Currently, the amount an undergraduate student can borrow from the federal government is capped at $57,500 over the student's lifetime. But parents of undergraduates and graduate students face no such limits, and can borrow as much as they need -- with the price tag set by schools.
Let me get this straight; Trump was approved to borrow 2 Billion $ from Deutsche Bank, and he wants to put a limit on student loan borrowing? If that doesn’t prove he’s an insane, insecure ego-maniac, what the Hell does?

I had the opportunity to attend a $90,000 college program and turned it down because I knew I could never pay it off. I did amass $45,000 by choice which I am now paying off without complaint. Common sense and Awareness before legislation.

Tuition is ridiculous at many institutions. Maybe this would lead to a correction in the out of control tuition and fees.

Not a bad idea. I think it's difficult for young students to grasp exactly how large these student loans are. And if you're unable to use your degree right out of school, that debt can be crippling.
Just like breaking up the banks we should break up the schools.

Colleges today make more money from sports than at any time in history. Stop giving coaches multimillion dollar contracts. Stop paying millions for training facilities. Take some of that money and lower the cost of admission.

The amount of money in student loans is 1.5T &someone must change the responsibility of the universities in this matter. They should be the 1 to co-sign the loan. It would keep them responsible 4 finding the employment or finance higher studies 4 some.
If Colleges are fighting over less students because of less financial aid they will have to look at ways to reduce the cost of education in order to compete.

Probably because a LOT of it is used for everything but school. Watch Judge Judy for a couple of weeks. Used for cars, vacations, drugs, vet bills, legal fines, car repairs, etc. No one oversees the money or makes anyone accountable.
