Zoe Chibuye said that she was late for school on a Friday morning and was waiting in line to sign in for her tardiness when an office assistant approached her and gave her detention because she felt her hair as a “distraction”.
“She usually has her hair in braids, but her hair needed a break so I styled it in a simple Afro puff,” she explained. Gloria firmly believes Zoe didn’t violate the school’s code of conduct. She added that she isn’t accusing the teacher of racism, but expects her to understand how African hair is and that there’s nothing wrong with it at all.
She added that she was also surprised that she was being reprimanded by the office assistant because it is out of her jurisdiction. Zoe has been going to school as normal since he incident and won’t be required to serve her punishment on Thursday.

Parent24 Hair code has been part of schools dress code for years !!! Either conform or feel free to start your own school!!!? This is just part of discipline which clearly the parent has NO understanding !!! This attitude is one of the reasons why SA is degenerating!!!?

Criminal records 'would be good for girls who beat fellow pupil'Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is not averse to criminal records being dished out to pupils from Crystam Park High School who were filmed beating a classmate. All bullies actually, girls or otherwise. Lesufi please just give them a warning. A criminal record will destroy their features, I am talking from experience. . . please don't take it to that extant please MEC Nah give them a second chance. They are young...they can make amends. Put them on weekly therapy sessions. Infact Education dept need one social worker or a psychologist per school.

If you give them Criminal Record the future of those kids is ruined, there should be right punishment for those kids! It serves.them right, they must learn that there is a consequence of every action. This is how they start, next thing someone is killed. They are not criminals though, they probably have a valid reason for beating up the other pupil, how can a group of people be wrong and one person be right?
