It’s not often I’d find myself sticking up for Conor McGregor – he’s big enough to look after himself. But you have to say one thing – The Notorious is owed an apology from Leo Varadkar.
Part of the “problem” with McGregor is he has never fit the type of sports hero that corporate Ireland likes. The Taoiseach and the people who run this country like your clean-cut team captain types. So Leo – the most right-on man in Ireland – can have a little dig at the working class Dub, signal that he’s not quite our type of Irishman, not the man you’d want representing the country abroad.
