The real college crisis: Student debt drags down economy.

Get breaking news alerts and special reports. The news and stories that matter, delivered weekday mornings.WASHINGTON — The college admissions scandal may have driven the conversation about higher education this week, but away from the headlines the far bigger story is student loan debt and what it is doing to a generation of Americans.

Homeownership fell across all age groups by about 4 percentage points, but the millennial drop was much steeper. . That looks very similar to the numbers for Generation X, who carry $39,000 in debt on average, and Baby Boomers who hold about $36,000 in debt, according to the study. Millennials have almost the same amount of debt, in dollar terms, as their older generational counterparts.

..there exists a plan to legitimately decrease cost of 4-yr college education by 20-25%.

This is true...but students need to pay their loans back accordingly. Not just 'forgive' the loans because some kids today think it should be forgiven. Rising costs of college need to be reigned in as well

But the president says the border is the real crisis. I guess the student debt crisis is a real one! Said no Republican. Ever.

It's nice to see the left [ Student debt drags down the economy] Student Loan changes are from Pres. Trump.

Uh, no kidding Sherlock. We must solve the student debt crisis, now.

We are at 80k.....we have a very high interest loan with Fannie Mae.....

It’s about time , the media starts to report on how the banks are destroying the lives of people who try to get an education by holding them hostage to their student debt. People can not afford to even buy simple things because of their student debt.

What the article fails to take into account is the impact skyrocketing educational costs has on parents as well. Parents are helping pay for their children’s student loans for years after they graduate as opposed to putting that money into the economy. As always, the banks win.

Back in my day parents used to save for their kid's college and didn't waste that money on the kids that didn't belong in college. Now they have RV's and boats in their driveway and the kids want the gov to pay their college so they can work at Applebee's with a useless degree.

Yep, 15 years in debt, I'm just now getting on top and seeing money flow. After I changed up to a CDL lol It's more options out here than just college. Do your research 1st because that debt is no joke.

We the curricula instructs the developers thereof....?

Moral of the story: Eliminate the govt edu department. Privatize edu, consumers dictate prices. Or... Learn a trade, no need for 4+ additional years of school.

And you're just figuring this out now LOL that's why they call you fake news

2 Stanford students file class action lawsuit in college admissions caseIn the wake of the college admissions scandal, two Stanford University students are filing a class action lawsuit against several institutions for being treated unfairly during the admissions process. The students allege that they were denied from certain schools because of the cheating and bribery scandal. A kid a Stanford thinks she/he could have done better? Frivolous BS on its face. What the hell are they complaining about, they’re enrolled in an Ivy League College!? If that’s the case, then everyone can sue. You can almost see the dollar signs in their eyes.

Two Stanford Students Are Suing Schools Involved In The College Admissions ScamErica Olsen and Kalea Woods are seeking punitive and compensatory damages, as well as compensation for the $80 application fee to apply to Yale University. As they should. okay... but by this logic wouldn’t ever student enrolled at these schools be entitled to compensation or a court case I would think all the qualified students who were not accepted to those schools would be able to sue them, and hopefully win. Large $$ payouts is the only language that they'll understand
