Charles Santiago said this was especially in view of a 2018 survey which revealed that one-fifth of Malaysian university students feel terrorism is an effective strategy to achieve an objective. He was referring to a survey titled “Undergraduate Radicalisation in Selected Countries in Southeast Asia” by the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism.
Santiago went on to point out that Brenton Tarrant, the shooter who has since been charged for murder, is reported to have posted an online manifesto where he slammed immigrants, refugees and migrant workers.
