Admission to a top-shelf college has become the Holy Grail for many families who have bought into the notion that their children’s success in life will be all but guaranteed by graduating from an elite institution. Conversely, the failure to make it into an elite school is viewed with dread. Attending a “second-tier” college is feared as a failure that will predestinate a second-rate education, followed by a third-rate career.

Opinion | The real victims of the college admissions scams are people with disabilitiesThe parents accused of faking their children's learning disabilities could make it harder for people who legitimately need accommodations to receive them. As someone with ADHD--undiagnosed until I was an adult--yeah. Many rich parents are fraudulently arranging for these diagnoses to better their kids chances. And many rich kids are aping ADHD to get meds. I'm struck by how many Americans seem caught off guard by this. Maybe they just didn't foresee all the secondary effects of this kind of crap, but c'mon man...who didn't already know the rich live by a different set of rules? Most of them don't even try to make a secret of it. Yes!
