About 410 students go to school at Adamstown Elementary in Lancaster County. When a janitor found a white substance on the playground, the administration wanted to be cautious.Ephrata police say it was just a small amount of salt.Around 12:30 p.m. Monday, a janitor discovered a small amount of the white substance on the ground at the bottom of the slide.According to a police press release, the janitor said he felt ill after being near the substance and was treated at Ephrata Community Hospital.
Ephrata police described the substance as a granular substance that got wet, so it was hard and clumpy. The officer who responded said there was a very small amount — it could have fit on a penny — but he said it didn't look like salt.An Ephrata police drug test kit did not identify the substance, but a more thorough hazmat test determined it was in fact salt.
