On Sept. 8, an asthma attack during a cross country meet sent Memphis Zabawa into cardiac arrest.

The painted lines at Omaha's Walnut Grove Park are still visible. They mark a path for cross-country runners of all ages. Memphis Zabawa, a seventh-grade student, has his reasons for taking up cross country. 'I want to build up my stamina and endurance for soccer,' said the Millard North Middle School student.But on Sept. 8, Memphis's path took a detour. His stamina wasn't there that day.

'I never thought I'd be in a position to do CPR are go through those measures on a 12-year-old,' she said. Memphis' mom, Erin Zabawa, was at work at the time. She got the call from her husband as it was happening. 'It was like a simulation with how everything worked,' said Erin Zabawa. 'But it was our real life.
