The San Diego Community College District broke ground on its future affordable student housing building on the campus of City College. It will offer apartments for 800 students when it is completed.

After decades of discussion and disagreement, affordable student housing in downtown San Diego has moved one step closer to reality.

"We’re going to have 800 students coming to all the spaces on our campus bringing life, bringing their families, and truly creating community," said Kimberly Kritzer was there to see the groundbreaking for a building she could have used during her studies. She graduated from City College in May with three associate degrees, despite family tragedies.
