New bills raising teacher pay and benefits have been introduced, but Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has said his 'education savings account' must pass first. Will that happen?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called ends its second week, an agreement on a school voucher-like program has yet to be made. There are other items on the agenda Abbott released before the Oct. 9 session began, but make no mistake, Austin wouldn't be full of lawmakers right now had Abbott’s wishes for his so-called “education savings account” bill had passed during the 88th Legislative session earlier this year.

I'm proud to support a bill to fully fund our state’s future. My colleagues in the Texas House and our constituents have no tolerance for voucher scams. If HB 1 is the result of the teamwork Abbott referred to, then it’s a rather drastic turn from the hardline, non-negotiable stance he’s taken on the matter thus far.
