What’s the best path to a top education in the UK if your grades fall short? History suggests family ties, a private education and a lot of rugby practice

It is hard to say what’s most epic about the US university admission scandal, between the lies ; the money involved , which parents are said to have paid to score their kids scholarships in fields wherein they have no merit); and the sight of all those famous people, their heads floating in a limbo-confusion, as society decides how much damage this peculiar business will do to their careers.

All of Parliament?

When 2/3 of PPE students have no idea what the real world is like beyond their wealthy little home county bubble yeah I'd say that's mediocrity

Didn't prince Harry get onto training to fly helicopters with a D in Art or something like that? That's just as bad

Well we all know mediocre intellects from Oxbridge & super smart kids who didnt get in

Given that the upper ranks of the Guardian are littered with privately educated OxCam alums I'd say it's highly likely.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The wealthiest people have for decades used the most powerful tool they have which is money to keep and make more of it . Corrupting the education system to make sure that their children, even if they don’t deserve it, get in the best universities is really not surprising.

What is this crap

This is how the real elite make sure their talentless offspring hoover up golden tickets to the lottery of life -sickened by the number of w/c kids who stand no chance because they lack connections ...why are we not out on the streets ?

Well done, Guardian! Great headline. I like my sarcastic wit the way I like my martinis: very, very dry

Most of them have ended up as MPs

Cannot imagine. The UK has always been a leader in classless meritocracy where the upper class has never received any special favours

Umm, yes, look at the Cabinet, the ERG and a fair chunk of Parliament.

Loads and loads.

Toby Young?

Most definitely!!!

Owen Jones

Yes, and they now all write for the Guardian.

All of them.

Toby Young, although to call him mediocre is a compliment

Serious question, how did TM get into Oxford, surely could not have been on merit. If her family had anything to do with it (see …) it would be worrying! Nexrt question- how did the Mays get her a safe seat and so into parliament- did they 'gift' for it?

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Plenty of them I should imagine. ...With plenty of mediocrity presently running this country!!

Yes

Prince Charles. Obviously.

They all became politician's

Clearly yes. Unless you think most of the Cabinet and recent Cabinet members intellectually peaked at 18, and have got increasingly dumber since?

The question should be asked not if but how many

Churchill failed the entrance exam but was let in anyway.

HackneyAbbott Cambridge

Presume this is a rhetorical question given the private school cheating scandal, the fact that they generally sit easier exam boards at A level and the British class system and politicians means the answer to this is a resounding yes

Yes. Most of the current crop of Tory MPs

Hmmm let me see....is the Pope of the Catholic faith? Does the Earth revolve around the sun? ........

Jesus Christ, is that a joke? Owen Jones and David ‘Trotters Up’ Cameron?

Well yes there was Toby Young

is water wet

Yes, Toby Young and Charles Windsor

Just look at the collection of MPs we have
