Students at an eastern suburbs primary school were given free popcorn if their parents paid their fees early, in a move the P&C Federation has slammed as "public shaming of children".
"It's public shaming of those children," she said. "I spoke to a parent whose child, who did receive the popcorn, didn't eat it, and felt really bad that they were put into that situation. It was dividing children as young as four-and-a-half." The popcorn initiative comes amid increasing concerns from the P&C Federation that cash-strapped schools are pressuring parents to pay fees.
"In this case, the communication provided to the families was clearly not in line with the policy. It's my understanding that the principal has put out a further communication to all parents of the school clearly clarifying that."
