Abbott addresses teacher pay raises, but not in a way many would've liked

The comments are sparking criticism from education champions like Education Austin president Ken Zarifi’s. “It is disrespectful to teachers that they have to be put on hold unless a voucher bill is passed. If the voucher bill was going to be that successful, he wouldn’t have to hold it hostage with teacher pay raises and school funding,” said Good.

This took place as state senators worked into the wee hours of the night contemplating passing a gamut of proposed legislation that included school choice bill SB 1- which they ultimately decided to approve.
