University of the Philippines (UP) annihilated University of Santo Tomas (UST), 110-79, at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday, October 14 for a 5-0 start in the UAAP Season 86 men's basketball tournament.

Harold Alarcon notched 21 points, four rebounds, and four assists to lead the way for the league-leading Fighting Maroons, who topped their previous best of 4-0 launch in 1997 and were just five points away from tying the league scoring record of 115.

UP pulled away in the middle quarters as they dominated UST, 66-35, including a 35-14 third canto onslaught, to enter the final stanza with a 94-59 lead.The Fighting Maroons, opting to use their third stringers in the final frame, went on to lead by as many as 37 points, 103-66 following a Chico Briones trey in the last 4:23.The cellar-dwelling Growling Tigers dropped to 0-5 and stayed as the only team without a win this season.
