Political parties Action SA and the DA have written to the French ambassador to South Africa to reconsider knighting basic education minister Angie Motshekga for her contribution to education.
He said that while Motshekga had made claims that the matric pass rate had improved during her tenure, this was a result of a reduction in the lower pass requirements. The DA said to be distinguished by the Order of the Legion of Honour, an individual must have a good reputation and have provided outstanding service to a nation.Motshekga and her department, the party lamented, have failed dismally in providing quality education to South African youth"condemning them to a lifetime of poverty, unemployment and hunger".
