St Anne’s, which first opened back in 1932, had only 58 registered pupils during the last academic year but this fell to just 10 this term.

A school which opened in 1932 will close its doors for the final time later this month after campaigners lost a High Court battle against the Department of Education’s decision.

St Anne’s, which first opened back 91 years ago, had only 58 registered pupils during the last academic year but this fell to just 10 this term. In March 2022, St Anne's formally applied to the Education Authority to become the second Catholic school to change to integrated status from September 2023 to meet a growing demand for integrated education in Donaghadee.

The Department of Education said it had approved the CCMS decision to close St Anne’s based on the "historic low enrolment". The group handed in a petition of 3,000 signatures to the Department of Education objecting to its decision to shut the school. Andre Muir, Alliance Party MLA for North Down said he was "gutted" with the outcome of the legal challenge to the planned closure of St Anne’s.
