"The Governor has laid out, clearly, what he wants, which is a broad bill that doesn't engage in the kind of carve-out strategy we've seen suggested by other folks in the legislature as a compromise,” said Texas Politics Project’s James Henson. Representative Donna Howard, D-Austin, is against a school voucher program but is even more concerned that teacher raises and public school funding were not even items up for discussion.
“We don’t know who in the world we’re letting in, and that’s really the kind of the crisis that we’re seeing,” said Representative Caroline Harris, R-Austin.
