The Central Criminal Court will begin hearing pre-trial legal arguments this week in the case of a man accused of murdering 23-year-old school teacher Ashling Murphy last year.

Josef Puska, 32, with an address at Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, in Co Offaly, is charged with murdering Ms Murphy in Tullamore, Co Offaly, in January 2022.A jury will then be sworn in and the trial is expected to last around six weeks in total.Ms Murphy, who was a primary school teacher and a talented musician, was killed while she was jogging along the Grand Canal in Tullamore on 12 January 2022.

Defence counsel Michael Bowman has previously told the court a Slovakian interpreter would be required for the trial.
