Asbestos has been discovered in a classroom at a primary school in Melbourne's north-west during renovation works. The room has since been cleaned but remains closed as a precautionThe Education Department is investigating after concern was raised last Wednesday after material containing asbestos was found at Essendon North Primary School.
The department said the room was cleaned to remove remaining asbestos debris and air monitoring was conducted, which showed that airborne asbestos fibres were below the laboratory detection limit. "As an additional precaution, the affected room will remain closed until the final inspection and air-monitoring is undertaken."We understand events such as these can be concerning for the school community and an investigation is underway.
"I imagine that a school like this perhaps wasn't identified [as medium or high risk], and it should have been, and that there might be others in this same situation."The department expects to provide an update on its investigation on Friday.
It’s at the school I work at - most would be if built in 60s and 70s
They sold it as a wonder material in the first place . Exonerated themselves from any blame. Now they persecute us - We the People for being in possession of said material.
Not a one of problem
It's everywhere. Time to bite the bullet & have a NATIONAL Clean up. Train LOADS need to be transported back to fill those mine sites. Federal & State Gov's need to get off the ass's. Special Carriages need to be dust tight build for purpose to transport safely.
