A bus full of schoolchildren were left horrified after watching a school bus crash in front of them - killing a teen and the driver. Emergency services rushed to the M53 between junctions five and four at around 8am on Friday, September 29, following reports of the crash.
A further eight children were taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital and Alder Hey Children's Hospital for treatment. In a press conference held on Friday afternoon Chief Superintendent Graeme Robson said how children from both high schools witnessed the incident from a bus that was traveling close behind.
"Family Liaison Officers are providing specialist support to both families and we are working with the schools, Wirral Council and Cheshire West Council to ensure the necessary trauma support is in place for the children on the bus. We also know that other children from both schools were on buses travelling in convoy with the bus involved and they witnessed the incident and they too will be provided with specialist trauma support.
Local police say that children on the bus as well as those travelling on other buses in convoy will be provided with specialist trauma support. Alder Hey and the North West Ambulance Service have declared a “major incident” following the crash.
