About 100 people opposed to a cable car development on Hobart's kunanyi/Mount Wellington spent the weekend learning the art of peaceful protest, in preparation for the start of drilling work.

The seasoned protester has attended more than 150 protests in 20 years.

"With protesting, you are actually entering into a confrontational situation straight away," she said. "It's really important to have a non-violent approach in everything you do and be sensible and be safe." She addressed the makeshift classroom at the Fern Tree Tavern on legal, environmental and safety issues, at one point even demonstrating an actual arrest, using volunteers.

"There's a lot of conflict, there's a lot of despair but, at the end of the day, you've all come together to do something really powerful," she told the crowd."I'm willing to stand in front of a bulldozer … I'll do whatever it takes."
