PSM wants the Education Ministry to compensate some 12,000 contract workers who lost their jobs due to a reduction in the budget for contract services.
"If under the contract, the Education Ministry asks for four workers instead of the initial six, then two others would lose their job.Mohanarani said the contracts are for three years and would normally be renewed. "The contract system used for permanent tasks helps reduce the cost for the government but is oppressive towards workers."
What is contract? When it end means end. The ministry has the right to choose to renew or not to renew the contract. Don’t say ‘ normally it will be renewed’. There is no guarantee. Other businesses or company will do the same. End means end & no compensation applies.
