Unions are advising members to strike over pay disputes, claiming more needs to be done by local authorities to help their staff with the risingLast week, The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities offered unions a £2,000 pay increase – or almost 10 per cent – with the hope that strikes would be called off.

2 unions – Unite and GMB – have paused strikes while they consulted with their members over the offer, meaning they won't strike this week.A post shared by Netmums Unison's Johanna Baxter said: 'The union's local government committee decided to reject the revised Cosla offer because, although there had been progress on pay for some employees, it short-changed the majority.'

'As the largest union in local government across Scotland, Unison represents council and school workers in all roles and at every salary level,' she said.Mark Ferguson, Unison Scotland’s chairman of local government, told the BBC that there is underfunding in the local councils, which unions sympathise with but also feels members are having to 'pick up the pieces' of this underfunding, not wanting their communities to suffer.
