JoAnne Epps, the acting president of Temple University, has died after falling ill during a memorial service Tuesday afternoon, the school announced.

Epps, 72, was attending a memorial event for historian and author Charles L. Blockson. During the event, she became ill, a school spokesperson said.

Epps was taken to Temple University Hospital for further treatment. The school spokesperson as well as a Temple Board of Trustee both confirmed with NBC10 that she later died. Officials have not yet revealed a cause of death.Sign up for NBC Philadelphia newsletters.She taught at the school for more than 30 years and was previously the Senior advisor to the university president.

Outside of Temple, Epps served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia and Deputy City Attorney in Los Angeles.
