shooting at Skyline High SchoolOne is charged with assault with a firearm, a second with being a minor in possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and carrying a loaded weapon in public, and a third with being a minor in possession of a firearm, prosecutors said in a statement.The county probation department will conduct assessments of the juveniles and make recommendations to the judge assigned to the case, prosecutors said.
In the statement, prosecutors noted that “state law mandates juvenile justice focus on rehabilitation, with consequences focused on the support the individual needs to prevent them from re-offending.” The shooting happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 5 near the theater area of the school, which is located at 12250 Skyline Blvd., according to the Oakland Police Department. Officers arrested two juveniles and recovered a firearm the same day.On Sept. 6, officers arrested a third juvenile and recovered a second gun, police said.
“We are fortunate that no one was killed or injured in this incident,” District Attorney Pamela Price said, “but we are sending the message that if you are in illegal possession of a gun and attempt to harm others, you will be held accountable.”
