During his two seasons playing at the prestigious school, the left-winger had 30-51-81 totals in 58 games. Last season, Farrell was amongThe Canadiens selected Farrell in the fourth round ofbefore he was headed to Harvard. But Harvard had its 2020-21 season cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so Farrell played for the Chicago Steel in the USHL, posting 29-72-101 totals in 53 games to lead the league in scoring. The Hopkinton, Mass., native also started taking his Harvard courses online.

Watching Farrell play with the Canadiens it was obvious he needs to get stronger — especially in the lower body — in order to win puck battles and then keep the puck once he gets it. Farrell was measured at 5-foot-9 and 181 pounds when the players reported to rookie camp on Wednesday. “We played a lot of good teams down the stretch there — Carolina, Boston — and those defencemen that they have are really good with their gaps and really tight on you,” Farrell said. “So you got to kind of know where you’re going with the puck before it gets to you.
