Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys is seeking changes in the Budget that would see children over the age of 18 in full-time secondary education receive Child Benefit.

At the Fine Gael think-in in Limerick, she confirmed that her priorities in the upcoming budget will be “pensioners, the carers, people on disabilities and working families”.READ MORE: Fewer budget one-offs as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar hints that excise duty won't be restored

She says: “It ceases currently when a child reaches the age of 18 [when] they're in full-time secondary education. When asked about the possibility of one-off payments in the budget, Minister Humphreys said that the main people she wants to help in the budget are “the pensioners, the carers, people on disabilities and working families.”Higher Education Minister Simon Harris also confirmed that he has asked his officials to examine whether it would be possible to allow one-parent families who want to study part-time to receive college grants.
