The woman was in hospital with her son, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2021

A Nottingham mum has expressed her anger after receiving a threatening note from her son's school after missing an at-home wellness check. Hayley Moran, 36, was at the Queen's Medical Centre with her son, Riley Sadler, who has been an inpatient at the hospital for the past four weeks with pneumonia.

Hayley was ‘furious’ when her daughter, 15, sent her a picture of a note from the school’s attendance team saying that the police may be contacted due to wellness concerns regarding Riley. She said: “I was absolutely livid that they were threatening me with the police because they couldn't see my child just because he hasn't been in school.

Hayley also said she and her son’s Macmillan nurse have been in contact with the school to arrange a phased return for her son. A meeting between Hayley and the school was supposed to take place yesterday, but the mum couldn’t attend due to being in hospital with Riley. Riley’s cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, has had to be put on hold due to his pneumonia since he was admitted on August 15. He was supposed to start Year 8 at the beginning of the academic year.
