In addition to a lack of guidance counsellor support, People For Education found that transitioning from applied to academic programs isn’t always a simple process for students. The TDSB said recent data suggests that about 88 per cent of its students in academic programs graduate from secondary school while only about 59 per cent of students in applied programs graduate.
“When we first started asking about implementing the Creating Pathways policy, principals reported a number of challenges, including a lack of professional development, limited time in the school day, and a lack of technical support for the online components of the policy,” the report read. The report states that to improve student outcomes, the provincial government should “develop a coherent strategy” that integrates “foundational competencies for long-term success” for students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

It isn't the teachers fault. They can only teach and do what the government mandates to the in the curriculum. Most would agree there is a huge lack of real life skills being taught but there is no time in the day to fit it all in.
Blame Teachers, Blame schools. What is the job of children's parents? If you have children they are your responsibility! My parents taught & guided me to make the best choices, answered my questions & helped me figure out what I wanted to do in the future. Not my Teachers.

Maybe? More like they are. As a parent I am involved with my own kids lives every second I can be. I am glad I am capable of giving the real life lessons/skills/guidance they need to have all the other under nourished kids become their minnions. (and there are many)

The courses we need to start teaching to prepare kids for the future would put a lot of teachers out of work. Coding, civics, debt management and personal investing should all be core curriculum in a modern age. Maybe Shakespeare should take a hit 🙄

Trades are the future. Stay healthy, lots of nice outside work and the pays great if you know what you're doing. Trades aren't pushed because the system overall makes less when someone doesn't go to university etc. Ontario's cultivating lots of lazy people so if you're motivated.

If it wasn’t for my grade 12 co-op class in aviation I probably wouldn’t be an aircraft mechanic. I got a job as apprentice right out of high school. Decided to go to college for aircraft maintenance. I’ve been working for 13 years now and don’t regret anything

Man I'd have killed to learn how to pay taxes and buy a car when I was a kid...... Ok well maybe I would have hated every second of it, but at least it would have been useful. A lot of my classes I found were pointless and I haven't needed that knowledge since exams.

'May be' falling behind? THEY ARE FALLING BEHIND!! There is no MAY BE about it. As a Volunteer parent, in the school system for 26 yrs now, we are failing our students. It's an atrocity & it's not getting enough attention.
