Schools receive points for five components based on their level of performance. Each component is weighted and then summed to determine the overall rating. Where data is not available, “NR” is used instead. For instance, the graduation rate is only applicable to those who graduate high school. An elementary school will receive an “NR” in the category.
The components achievement and progress are weighted at 28.601%, while graduation rate, gap closing and early literacy are rated at 14.266%.The star rating replaced the previous letter grades on the report cards, a change that resulted from a law passed by the Ohio General Assembly. Public schools are now measured by one to five stars, with one star representing the lowest performance and five the highest.
