A Stevenson High School student apparently used another student’s unattended phone Wednesday to make a bomb threat at the school, Lincolnshire police said.
Police said they do not believe the threat is credible, but they increased their presence at the school Thursday to help students feel safe.According to authorities, the threat was conveyed via a student’s social media account. Police think that the student left his phone unattended on a school bus Wednesday at about 4 p.m. and another student used the device to make the threat.
Police said they worked with school officials to immediately identify the source of the social media account.“The police department takes these matters seriously and are working with school officials and the bus company to identify the person who sent the message. Based on investigative efforts thus far, it does not appear this threat is credible,” Lincolnshire village officials said in a media statement.
