Haley is set to attend a high-profile event in Manchester with Moms for Liberty and commit to the group's"Parents Pledge," which promises to respect “the fundamental rights of parents including, but not limited to the right to direct the education, medical care, and moral upbringing of their children.” The former South Carolina governor’s expected signature ahead of the event was confirmed by her campaign press secretary to the Washington Examiner.
Haley and several other Republican presidential candidates spoke at the second annual Moms for Liberty summit earlier this summer, solidifying her partnership with the group on the campaign trail in the first-in-the-nation primary state. “This is about parents getting control of their children again,” Haley said Wednesday on Fox News. “We don't want to give custody of our kids to the teachers union. We deserve to know what’s happening in schools, and we should get complete transparency in the classroom.”
In an annual report released in June, the Southern Poverty Law Center labeled Moms for Liberty, along with 11 other groups, as extremist groups, claiming it pushes to advance an anti-inclusion agenda on students.Haley has thrown her support behind the group and co-founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice, calling to add her to the list if Moms for Liberty is considered a “hate group.”
“We don't co-parent with school boards, and we don't co-parent with the government,” Haley said on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday. “Time to hold them accountable and remind them they work for us — not the other way around.”
