Italian student Letizia Torri was told the room she thought she was moving into is no longer available as she prepares to start her studies on September 15.

A student heading to Scotland to study was left 'devastated' after her accommodation fell through at the last minute.

Letizia, explained: "It was all super last minute. I started looking in June but couldn't see anything for students. Everyone kept telling me to wait for August but now everything has gone. "Then on Tuesday, she messaged me saying 'Sorry, she isn't moving out.'. She didn't get the house, so now I can't move in. And I know it's not their fault, it's the housing crisis, and I should have had a back-up plan, maybe looked for something more official."

"I was really looking forward to finally living in a flat that isn't student accommodation, and being back in Edinburgh. But now I don't know what will happen. What am I meant to do? Stay in a hotel until I'm broke? It is really stressful." Top news stories today The study also found that 42 percent of international students have gone without heating, 49 percent have skipped a meal and 10 percent have used foodbanks. Higher education minister Graeme Dey said: “Scotland welcomes international students from all over the world and they are an important part of our student community.
