Devon and Cornwall Police said the officer was suspended when he was arrested and was no longer an employee of the force

A former student police officer has been charged with a string of sex offences. Antony James, 33, from Plymouth, is due at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on September 6 to face 21 charges.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the charges relate to incidents reported to have taken place between 2012 and 2022. They are:- Two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a female aged 13 to 15.- Two counts of causing/inciting a female aged 13 to 15 to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity.- Two counts of causing a child aged 13 to 15 to watch/look at an image of sexual activity.- Three counts of possession of an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child.
