Concerned about legal and tax-related ramifications

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Four-hundred new international students will start at Memorial University of Newfoundland on Sept. 6, but many of these students don't have a place to live.

MUNFA members are asked to contact the union if they've opted to take in students. They are concerned about legal and tax-related ramifications. "I am deeply concerned that literally days before term, faculty are being asked to step in to try to provide rental housing to students who are arriving in mere days. And that's a problem because MUN knew it was a problem.""This is a form of institutionalized housing precarity because, basically, international students encounter this storm of institutionalized problems. They're young, they're students," she said.

Nitish Bajaj said,"In my opinion staying with anybody is better than being homeless or staying in an Airbnb which costs way too much money."
