The cost of living has a number of Canadians struggling to pay for essential items like groceries, gas and housing these days — leaving parents left to wonder how to stretch their dollar when going back-to-school shopping for their kids.
According to NerdWallet, more than a quarter of Canadian parents who plan to back-to-school shop this year intend to buy fewer school supplies than in previous years due to inflation, while more than half say they plan to shop during sales events for those purchases. “Studies show that people who shop without a list pay as much as 23 per cent more than those who actually make a list and stick to it.” “For example, if you know that your family’s back-to-school expenses are going to be $300, then start planning for next year right now — maybe open a separate savings account and transfer a small amount into that account. That way once next September rolls around, you’ll have the money you need ready to go,” Martin said.
