Colchester County District RCMP has charged a former school band director with sexual offences that occurred in Valley between 2005 and 2007. Survivors are encouraged to reach out to the RCMP. An investigation was opened immediately. Police soon identified a survivor who was a youth at the time of the assaults. With details provided by the survivor, RCMP arrested Lorna Elaine Letcher, age 65, of Valley, a former band director at the Cobequid Educational Centre.Letcher has been charged with three counts of Sexual Assault and three counts of Sexual Exploitation. Letcher was released on conditions, including not being in contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Colchester County District RCMP is aware that Letcher currently volunteers at the Redcliff Middle School and has provided music lessons from her residence in the past. Investigators believe there may be additional survivors and are reaching out to offer support and encourage anyone who may be a survivor to come forward by contacting your local police or RCMP Detachment.
