Unlike most kids, Doucette and his younger brother Mitch, who is also a player on the rise, had an advantage from the beginning. Ty is the son of Darren and Alana Doucette. Alana was a talented volleyball player while Darren Doucette was the most feared slugger in the history of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League during his career with the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry.
Ty remembers watching Moosehead Dry games at Beazley Field as a kid. The Dry program has been one of the best in the country for over three decades. Ty benefitted from being around star hitters like his father, Greg West, Joel Irvine and current teammate Chris Head. Head, the only remaining holdover from those Dartmouth days, recalls tossing a young Ty some batting practice and watching the results with amazement.
