More than 6K students return to classrooms in Lake Zurich School District 95: ‘There’s no better time than the start of the school year’

Lake Zurich School District 95 Superintendent Kelley Gallt greets her 3-year-old grandson, Baylor, Aug. 15, 2023 as he arrives at May Whitney school for the first day of the school year -- in preschool for him.

Aug. 15 was the first day of school at May Whitney Elementary School — and the other seven schools in SD95 — and families in their vehicles lined up early to drop children off. Maria Moreano started July 1 as the new May Whitney principal, coming from River Trail School in Gurnee School District 56.“I come to this district with 28 years of experience from Gurnee 56, and this is the only place that I wanted to leave for,” Moreano said about May Whitney. “It’s been amazing. But more than the school, it’s the people. They’re phenomenal.”

And it’s even better to be in a new building.”

“The cost of the project is projected to be repaid through rebates, solar renewable energy credits, reductions in electric expenses and the potential for even more incentives projected from the Inflation Reduction Act.”
