Read more: Parents earning €591 a week could be eligible for social welfare payment They told RSVP Live: “The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance scheme provides a once-off payment to eligible families to assist with the costs of clothing and footwear when children start or return to school each autumn.
“This means that €260 will be paid in respect of children aged 4-11 years old, and €385 will be paid in respect of children aged 12 years and over in second level education.“To date, the Department has awarded the BSCFA to over 146,000 families in respect of over 231,000 children. More than 123,000 of these families were automatically awarded the allowance without the need for an application.
“The Department is working to process applications as quickly as possible and to maximise the number processed before the start of the new school year.
