Non-teaching school staff in South Ayrshire are to walk out next month as part of strike action in a row over pay, GMB Scotland has announced. The region will be one of 10 local authorities to be affected in the industrial action hitting council areas across Scotland.
The union, which represents more than 21,000 workers across Scotland’s 32 councils, today served notice on ten local authorities telling them staff in schools and early years working across catering, cleaning, pupil support, administration and janitorial services will strike next month. The ballot came after 94 per cent of the GMB Scotland’s members rejected the councils’ offer in April, branding it unacceptable when inflation has surged inflicting a cost-of-living crisis. Cosla previously said the "strong offer" raised the local government living wage by 99p to £11.84 per hour.
